Description

Factory-Direct Slip-On Raised Face Flanges
SASA Flange supplies common slip-on raised face configurations for industrial piping orders. Dimensions, pressure class, bore and facing are confirmed against the specified standard and pipe data before quotation.
Product overview
A slip-on raised face flange is positioned by sliding its bore over the pipe. The assembly is then welded according to the governing piping code, approved joint detail and qualified welding procedure. The raised face concentrates the gasket seating area around the bore; its height, diameter and surface finish must match the ordered dimensional standard and pressure class.
“Slip-on” identifies the connection style, while “raised face” identifies the facing. These terms do not by themselves define the material, pressure-temperature rating, pipe bore or gasket. Each of those items must be stated or derived from the project specification.
Standards and ordering basis
| Flange type | Slip-on flange with raised-face gasket seating surface; use SORF or SO RF in the RFQ only when the project terminology is clear. |
|---|---|
| Dimensional standard | ASME B16.5 is commonly specified for applicable NPS sizes and pressure classes. EN, DIN, JIS or drawing-based requirements can be reviewed when clearly identified. |
| Size and pressure | Common market NPS/DN sizes and pressure classes can be supplied. The exact range depends on the selected standard, material grade and order requirements. |
| Pipe fit | State pipe outside diameter, schedule or required flange bore. Do not select the bore from nominal pipe size alone when a special wall or machining allowance applies. |
| Facing | Raised-face dimensions and finish are supplied to the ordered standard or approved drawing. State any project-specific finish requirement. |
| Inspection documents | Material certificates, PMI, dimensional reports, additional testing and third-party inspection are supplied only when included in the confirmed order scope. |
Materials and supply range
Stainless and alloy steel
Common ASTM A182 grades and other project-specified forged materials can be reviewed for the required service and dimensional standard.
Nickel alloys
Common nickel-alloy grades under the applicable ASTM B462, ASTM B564 or project material specification can be supplied after grade and service review.
Titanium alloys
Titanium and titanium-alloy forgings can be supplied to the specified grade and applicable ASTM B381 or project requirements.
Other common materials
Carbon steel, low-temperature steel and other conventional flange materials can be reviewed against the requested grade, standard and service conditions.
Factory-direct supply is available for standard and commonly used market configurations. Packaging can be selected from common market and export options according to product, transport and customer requirements. Lead time is confirmed per order; the fastest schedule may be 7 working days after technical and commercial confirmation, subject to material, size, quantity, machining, testing and documentation.
Application and selection notes
Slip-on raised face flanges are used in many general industrial piping systems where the project permits a slip-on connection. Typical enquiries come from water treatment, chemical processing, utilities, food and beverage equipment, marine-related systems and general process piping.
The final selection should consider the governing design code, pressure-temperature rating, material compatibility, gasket type, flange facing, pipe schedule, welding access and inspection requirements. For services involving severe cyclic loading, high external loads, critical leakage control or special temperature conditions, the project engineer should confirm whether another flange type is more appropriate.

Frequently asked questions
What does SORF mean?
SORF commonly means slip-on raised face: the flange slides over the pipe and has a raised gasket seating surface.
Does the raised face determine the pressure class?
No. Facing and pressure class are separate order details. The class, material group and temperature determine the applicable rating under the governing standard.
Why is pipe schedule needed?
Schedule helps define the pipe wall and required bore relationship. It is especially important when the project requires a specific bore, machining allowance or fit-up detail.
Can different materials and standards be supplied?
Common stainless steel, nickel alloy, titanium and other conventional material configurations can be supplied. The exact grade, size and standard must be confirmed for the order.
