Inconel 625 Threaded Rod

Inconel 625 UNS N06625 nickel alloy threaded rod combining strength and corrosion resistance for seawater, offshore and chemical-process fastening.

Description

Ni-Cr-Mo-Nb corrosion-resistant alloy

Inconel 625 Threaded Rod

High-strength nickel alloy all-thread for seawater, offshore, chemical processing and demanding chloride-bearing environments.

Product overview

Inconel 625 threaded rod is produced from UNS N06625 nickel-chromium-molybdenum-niobium alloy. The alloy combines solid-solution strength, fabricability and broad corrosion resistance, making it a frequent choice for marine, offshore and chemical process equipment.

ASTM B446 is commonly specified for Alloy 625 rod and bar starting material. The finished threaded product should additionally define the thread standard, dimensions, condition, mechanical testing, surface finish, anti-galling provisions and acceptance documentation.

Marine resistanceStrong performance in many seawater and chloride environments.
Useful strengthMo-Nb strengthening supports demanding mechanical service.
Broad temperature rangeSelected for both cryogenic and elevated-temperature duties.
PMI traceabilityPositive material identification helps prevent alloy mix-ups.

Inconel 625 threaded rod specifications

Material designation Alloy 625 / UNS N06625 / EN 2.4856
Starting material ASTM B446 rod and bar, ordered condition; alternative project specification by agreement
Thread systems ASME B1.1 UNC, UNF or 8UN; ASME B1.13M / ISO metric
Size range 1/4–3 in and M6–M72 typical; larger custom sizes subject to availability
Length Standard all-thread lengths or cut-to-length
Surface Clean machined, pickled/passivated as specified; no carbon-steel contamination
Matching hardware Alloy 625 or project-selected compatible nuts and washers
Inspection EN 10204 3.1 MTC, PMI, dimensions, thread gauging and mechanical tests as ordered

Final dimensions, tolerances, heat treatment, coating, testing and acceptance criteria follow the confirmed purchase order and the applicable standard edition. Availability depends on diameter, length, thread form and production quantity.

Why specify this material?

Alloy 625 is selected when both mechanical strength and resistance to seawater, chloride pitting, crevice corrosion and a range of process media are important. Actual chemical concentration, temperature, aeration, deposits and galvanic coupling remain essential selection inputs.

Engineering note

Nickel-alloy threads can gall under assembly load. Specify compatible nut material, surface finish, lubricant, engagement and installation procedure. Avoid uncontrolled chloride-bearing lubricants for sensitive service.

Typical applications

Quality, inspection and documentation

Alloy 625 threaded rod requires verified feedstock, clean alloy-controlled manufacturing and PMI. Surface condition and anti-galling requirements should be treated as functional specifications, not cosmetic options.

  • EN 10204 3.1 material test certificate
  • Heat-number and batch traceability
  • Chemical composition and mechanical properties
  • Dimensional inspection and thread gauging
  • PMI for stainless and nickel alloys when ordered
  • Coating thickness or surface inspection when applicable
  • Third-party inspection and additional testing by agreement
  • Export marking and seaworthy packing

Frequently asked questions

Which material standard is used for Inconel 625 threaded rod?

ASTM B446 is commonly used for UNS N06625 rod and bar starting material. Finished-thread requirements, dimensions and testing must also be stated on the order.

Is Inconel 625 suitable for seawater?

It has excellent performance in many seawater applications, but the engineer must still consider temperature, crevices, deposits, velocity, cathodic protection and galvanic couples.

How can galling be reduced?

Use controlled thread finish, suitable mating material, approved lubricant, proper engagement and an installation procedure developed for nickel-alloy bolting.

Can Alloy 625 threaded rod be supplied with PMI?

Yes. PMI, heat traceability, dimensional inspection and EN 10204 3.1 documentation are commonly specified for critical alloy fasteners.
