Фланцевые против. Соединения межфланцевого клапана: Как выбрать правильное соединение трубопроводов
Прямой ответ
Choose a flanged-end valve when the piping specification, larger body support, independent end connections or maintenance philosophy requires integral valve flanges. Choose a wafer-style valve when compact face-to-face length, lower weight and installation between compatible mating flanges are priorities. Neither is universally better: the valve standard, номинальное давление-температура, flange compatibility, bolt arrangement, seat design, piping loads and isolation requirement must be checked together.
“Flanged versus wafer” usually compares valve body connection styles, especially for butterfly and check valves. A flanged-end valve has integral end flanges that bolt to the adjoining pipe flanges. A wafer-style valve has a compact, flangeless body centered between two piping flanges and clamped by through-bolts or studs.
This distinction is more precise than treating a wafer valve as a general substitute for every flanged pipe connection. The surrounding pipe flanges are still essential: their standard, лицом к лицу, bore and bolt pattern must be compatible with the valve and any required gaskets or seat-face arrangement.
Ключевые выводы
- Wafer describes a compact valve body installed between compatible pipe flanges; it does not eliminate the flanges.
- Flanged-end valves are heavier and longer but provide integral bolted ends and can simplify support or removal planning in some systems.
- A wafer valve should not be assumed suitable for end-of-line service or one-sided pressure unless the manufacturer explicitly rates the exact configuration for it.
- Pressure class alone does not establish compatibility—standard, размер, лицом к лицу, разболтовка, disc clearance, seat and service conditions also matter.
How flanged-end and wafer-style valve connections differ
Flanged-end valve
A flanged-end valve incorporates one flange at each body end. Each valve flange connects to its mating piping flange using a dedicated set of bolts or studs. The valve’s flange dimensions, facing and rating must match the adjoining system. Depending on valve type and design, the bolted ends can provide a robust connection and allow the upstream and downstream joints to be handled separately during maintenance.
Integral flanges add face-to-face length, mass and material. That can increase purchase and handling cost, but the wider body structure may be preferred for large diameters, higher piping loads, project standardization or specific maintenance practices. The valve still requires correct support; integral flanges do not justify transferring uncontrolled pipe strain into the body.
Wafer-style valve
A wafer valve is positioned between two pipe flanges. Long through-bolts or studs clamp the complete assembly. The body typically has centering holes, not a full set of threaded lugs for two independent bolted connections. Its short face-to-face dimension and lower weight can be valuable where space, support capacity or installation mass is limited.
Because common fasteners clamp both sides, removing adjacent piping or loosening the joint affects the complete assembly. The piping must remain aligned and supported during installation and maintenance. End-of-line or dead-end duty is not a generic wafer-valve capability; it requires an explicit manufacturer rating and approved installation arrangement.
Flanged vs wafer valve comparison
| Фактор выбора | Flanged-end valve | Wafer-style valve | What the purchaser should verify |
|---|---|---|---|
| Body connection | Integral flange at each end | Compact body clamped between pipe flanges | Valve standard, стандартный фланец, размер, класс или ПН, facing and bolt pattern |
| Face-to-face and weight | Generally longer and heavier | Generally shorter and lighter | Approved dimensions, handling plan and installed support |
| Болтовые соединения | Separate fastener set at each end | Through-bolts or studs commonly span the assembly | Fastener quantity, длина, материал, access and interference |
| Maintenance isolation | Ends can often be disconnected separately, subject to the piping arrangement | Loosening common bolting affects both sides | Line isolation, pipe support and removal procedure |
| End-of-line service | May be suitable when the rated valve and blind-end arrangement are approved | Do not assume suitability | Exact manufacturer’s one-sided pressure or dead-end rating |
| Piping loads | More body structure, but still load-limited | Compact body can be sensitive to misalignment and clamping conditions | Allowable loads, alignment and support design |
| Типичные применения | Процесс, utility and large-diameter systems where integral ends are specified | Вода, HVAC and process systems requiring a compact valve, subject to the selected design | Жидкость, температура, падение давления, скорость, cycles and leakage requirement |
How to choose the right valve connection
1. Start with the governing valve and piping specifications
Do not select the body style from price or available space alone. Identify the valve standard, piping flange standard, расчетное давление, расчетная температура, жидкость, допуск на коррозию, fire-safe requirement, fugitive-emission requirement, leakage class and any owner specification. Confirm the adopted editions on the purchase order.
2. Check flange and bolting compatibility
The mating flanges must provide the bolt pattern and internal clearance required by the valve. A butterfly disc may extend beyond the body during opening, so the pipe or flange bore must not interfere. Verify bolt diameter, число, length and access. For wafer installation, confirm whether bolts pass through body centering holes and whether the selected piping flange facing is permitted.
3. Evaluate process duty, not only line pressure
Butterfly-valve performance depends on differential pressure, flow direction where marked, скорость, operating frequency, throttling position, cavitation or flashing risk, solids and seat material. Body rating and seat rating may differ. A valve that fits between the flanges can still be unsuitable for the process duty.
4. Plan maintenance and isolation
Consider how the valve will be removed, how each pipe side will be supported and whether the system requires one side to remain connected. If the valve may be exposed to one-sided pressure during maintenance, obtain the exact end-of-line rating and installation limitations from the manufacturer. A lug-style or double-flanged design may be more suitable when independent-side bolting is required, but the exact rated configuration still controls.
5. Account for weight, space and external loads
A wafer valve can reduce installed mass and face-to-face length. A flanged-end design may simplify some support and large-diameter arrangements. Neither body should be used to pull misaligned piping together. Review pipe reactions, actuator mass, вибрация, thermal movement and support location with the responsible piping engineer.
Installation and inspection checkpoints
Confirm identification
Match tag, размер, рейтинг, материалы, flow arrow, seat and trim to the approved data sheet and certificates.
Inspect mating interfaces
Check flange faces, valve sealing surfaces, gaskets where required, bore clearance and protective-cover removal.
Support and align the piping
Provide safe access and support before inserting the valve. Do not use bolting to correct excessive offset or angular misalignment.
Check disc clearance
Before final tightening, verify that the disc can move without contacting the pipe, liner, gasket or flange bore.
Tighten evenly
Use the approved cross-pattern, staged tightening method and specified fastener condition to avoid body or seat distortion.
Function and leak test
Operate the valve through its required travel and test according to the applicable procedure before service.
Damage discovered after installation should be evaluated systematically. Our guide to the six causes of valve sealing-surface damage explains how manufacturing, операция, коррозия, erosion, mechanical wear and fatigue can interact.

Часто задаваемые вопросы
Does a wafer valve connect directly to the pipe without flanges?
Нет. A typical wafer valve is clamped between two compatible mating pipe flanges. The flange pattern, бурить, facing and bolting must match the approved valve installation.
Are wafer valves limited to DN50 or smaller sizes?
Нет. Wafer butterfly valves are available across much larger size ranges. The permitted range depends on the applicable standard, manufacturer design, rating and service—not a universal DN50 limit.
Can a wafer valve be used at the end of a line?
Do not assume it can. End-of-line service creates one-sided pressure and requires an explicit rating and approved bolting or isolation arrangement from the manufacturer and responsible engineer.
Is a flanged-end valve always suitable for higher pressure?
Нет. Connection style alone does not determine pressure capability. Verify the exact valve design, материал, body and seat ratings, температура, стандартный, flange compatibility and process duty.
What is the difference between wafer and lug-style valves?
A wafer body commonly uses through-bolts across both pipe flanges. A lug body has threaded or through-body lugs around the valve, which can support different bolting and maintenance arrangements. The exact manufacturer’s design and end-of-line rating still govern.
